Crest’s trainers from all around New Zealand converged on Auckland during March for the inaugural ‘Train the Trainers’ course. Hosted by Jim Brand, Crest’s director of training, the course was held over 3 days at ‘Old Government House’, set in the grounds of the University of Auckland. The course drew together Crest’s team of trainers, who came to learn the finer points of teaching the skills and techniques of cleaning to franchisees.

With the assistance of Crest’s training manager Chris Chapman the course presented a series of modules designed to educate the trainers in how to teach new franchisees to successfully operate their Crest franchise. The modules covered the chapters in the Quality Training Manual, together with further information to improve the trainers’ knowledge of the cleaning industry. Some of the topics included information on the best use of products and equipment, legislation, safe working practices, effective communications and hygiene standards. The background theory behind the topics was explained as well as the techniques of how to teach this material to new franchisees.

The trainers participated in role playing exercises, which gave the group an excellent way to observe, analyse and evaluate the teaching and learning process. The common theme gained by all participants was Crest’s strive for improved quality, and how delivering an improved cleaning service to customers will enable individual franchisees’ businesses to grow and become more successful.

The trainers seemed to really enjoy the course, and judging by their positive comments they each gained a lot of useful information and confidence in their abilities from it. Participants wholeheartedly thanked Jim and Chris for their positive and supportive manner and for the quality of the material they presented.
